CHELSEA F.C. NEW STADIUM’S ENTRANCE: SHORTLISTED

In April Socrates Architects took part in a public competition to design the entrance gates for Chelsea Football Club’s new 60,000 seat Stamford bridge stadium.

The club received more than 500 hundred high quality entries from all over the world and after a long selection process Socrates Architects have recently been informed that they have been shortlisted amongst 5 others as the potential winner.

This shortlist has been chosen by a special Committee, appointed by the Chelsea Football Club, to oversee the competition. This Committee is Chaired by architect Stefan Marbach, Partner at Herzog & de Meuron Architects, who has led the design team behind the Stamford Bridge redevelopment.

Socrates Architects’ competition entry was unique as the design for the stadium’s entrance gates was articulated from a large abstract painting he produced which was derived and abstracted from the renowned Chelsea F.C. logo. The painting encapsulates the spirit and essence of Chelsea football club and what the logo “The Lion Rampant” represents – the abstract oil painting 5ft x 5ft is entitled – “A Beast in Fighting Attitude”.
