SOCRATES ARCHITECTS VISITS LIVERPOOL AND RIBA NORTH

Socrates Architects visited the new Broadway Malyan-designed RIBA North Architectural Centre on Mann Island in Liverpool.

Whilst in Liverpool, we also visited the Titanic Hotel which is part of the redevelopment of the historic Stanley Dock complex. It is located in what was the North Warehouse.

The North Warehouse was built in 1846 and finished in 1854 and was then derelict for a number of years. Part of the North Warehouse was damaged in an air raid in World War II.

Standing opposite the Titanic Hotel/North Warehouse is the grade 2 listed Tobacco Warehouse building which is currently under refurbishment which will form the next phase of development of Stanley Dock with apartments, bars and shops.

Both the Titanic Hotel and the adjacent colossus Tobacco Warehouse was refurbished by Harcourt Developments.

Stanley Dock is one of the 6 sites in Liverpool making up it’s UNESCO World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City listing.

These buildings have been restored and maintain their majestic heritage and breathe life once more into this once-vibrant industrial area.
